Should Children Receive Chiropractic Care?๐Ÿ™‡

Should Children Receive Chiropractic Care?๐Ÿ™‡ post thumbnail

Background:
Many parents believe that chiropractic care should be reserved only for adults. But a recent study demonstrated that children also benefit.

Who Conducted the Study?
The study was reported in the journal Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.

How Was the Study Conducted?
The study looked at people ages 10-24 who were having spinal pain. All had pain in one or more of the four regions of the spine: neck, upper and mid back, low back, and sacrum (bottom of the spine)

What did the Study Reveal?
The young people showed โ€œstatistically and clinically significant improvement on their levels of pain as rated on a 10-point scale in all spinal regions following chiropractic management.โ€ While this study only looked at children as young as age 10, research also suggests that chiropractic care is effective for children of any age. Indeed, some chiropractors specialize in treating children, often treating infants soon after birth.

What is the Take Home Message?
If your son or daughter complains about back or neck pain, or if he or she seems to have a high shoulder or high hip โ€“ both signs of possible scoliosis (curvature of the spine) — have them evaluated.

Yours for better health,
Jon Mills, DC
